This quote means that whatever you do just to be popular isn't always the right thing to do. For example if someone ask you if you want to become popular u have to smoke. Are you going to smoke? If you are your choosing the wrong. Just because you want to become popular doesn't mean you have to smoke, you can do something else that's right to become popular.
